Artists’ studios engaging with communities: ACAVA Flying Angel, NFASP case study, March 2010

Resource Details:

ACAVA's Flying Angel is part of a mixed-use scheme combining artists' studios and housing for the homeless. ACAVA (Association for Cultural Advancement through Visual Art) studio providers have worked in partnership with Look Ahead Housing and Care (LAHC) to create a unique project combining artists’ studios with accommodation for previously homeless people.

The project has used space in a residential building in Newham, London, for artists’ studios to complement and extend the housing provider’s programme of arts activities. Flying Angel, an old seaman’s mission building in Newham, has been converted into mixed-use residential units and artists’ studios.

The development places artists and their practice at the centre of a challenging community - and aims to benefit artists and the community.
